Knovus x DIA Collaboration // Knitted Sleeve for DIAGONAL Magazine

We’re proud to have partnered with the Design Institute of Australia to bring their new quarterly publication DIAGONAL to life in a tactile, textured 3d knitted sleeve.

At Knovus, we specialise in merging material innovation with functional aesthetics. For the launch of the inaugural Spring 2024 DIAGONAL issue, we designed and manufactured a limited‑edition custom knitted sleeve made from elastane. Using plating, a knitting technique that layers two yarns (one visible on the outside, one on the inside), we created a duo-coloured, textured cover that contrasts front and back yarn colours and adds depth through subtle structure.

The elastane base gives the sleeve stretch and form-fitting adaptability, while the plating technique enables:

  • Duo-colour contrast: one colour on the exterior, a different shade beneath for visual depth.

  • Refined surface texture: the front face shows the premium colour and finish; the back remains soft and practical against the magazine.

  • 3D knit structure: lending the sleeve a sculptural presence

This isn’t just packaging, it’s a designed artefact in its own right.

We’re thrilled to have contributed to DIAGONAL’s debut as more than a publication by knitting together form, function, and design innovation to accompany the physical magazine.

The DIAGONAL inaugural issue with the Knovus knitted sleeve is available now via the Design Institute of Australia’s store.
